I don't have a particularly clean answer to what I do.

I've always been a computer person. Long before I could reasonably call myself a software engineer, computers were the place where I naturally ended up. I liked understanding how things worked, taking things apart, making things, and finding strange solutions to problems that probably didn't need strange solutions.

I don't have years of conventional software employment behind me. I've worked other jobs, but I never really settled into the normal career path. The older I get, the less convinced I am that forcing myself into one is necessarily the right answer.

I like building things. I like going very deep into a problem. I like the point where an idea that existed only in my head begins becoming something another person can touch.

What I'm much worse at is everything surrounding that process: talking about myself, promoting what I make, networking for its own sake, keeping momentum once the interesting problem is solved, choosing one thing when ten things are interesting, and sometimes simply beginning something I already know I want to do.

ADHD is part of that story. Being fairly introverted is another part. Neither explains everything, and I'm not particularly interested in making either one my identity. What interests me is figuring out how to build a life that actually works with the person I am.

I would like to make my living from things I build and own. Software will probably be a large part of that. Maybe games. Maybe writing. Maybe things I haven't thought of yet.

This site is somewhere to keep track of that journey—not only the things that work, but the things that almost worked, things I abandoned, things I changed my mind about, things I'm learning, and questions I haven't answered yet.

For a long time most of this existed scattered across GitHub repositories, chats, social-media posts, half-finished documents, and my own head. I wanted a home for it. So I made one.
